Wexford take home an impressive 7 All Ireland 4-Wall Titles from Kingscourt

The curtain came down today on a great weekend’s handball in Kingscourt where the All Ireland Adult 4-Walll Singles Finals were held along with the Juvenile All Irelands in both singles and doubles. It was a very successful weekend with 7 titles secured.

Starting with the juveniles, Wexford were involved in three Finals and won two of them. Our only singles player, Conor Horan from Coolgreany, won the U17 title in two straight games, Conor won the first comfortably but was pushed all the way in the second but held his nerve to take the title. The U17 doubles pairing of William Murphy (Castlebridge) and Bobby Doyle (Taghmon) lost their first game but came storming back to take the second and the tiebreaker for a great win. Our U15 doubles pairing of Sean Fitzharris and Jamie Moran from Templeudigan got off to a flier in the first game, only to be pegged back in the second. The momentum was with their Galway opponents after that and they went on to win the third game..

The adult SIngles Finals were played over Friday night and Saturday. We had five players involved on Friday and won four of the Finals. There was a great family double when Tommy (GMAS) and Holly Hynes (LJBS), St. Marys, both won in some style. Robert Byrne (SMBS) brought an extremely rare title back to Bridgetown, winning impressively in two straight games. Next into action was Castlebridge man John Roche and he brought his great form into the Final. He was pushed hard in the first game but came through and, with that game under his belt, he went on to win the second game comfortably. David Stanners (MBS) from St.Martins was up against a tough opponent in Con Collins from Antrim, someone he knows well from previous contests. The first game went the distance with David unfortunately losing it 21-20. It was uphill from there and Con took the second and the title.

On Saturday Mark Doyle from Taghmon won the U21 Final in impressive style and to think he is eligible for this grade for another two years! Gavin Buggy (St Marys) lost out in the O35A Final to Joe  McCann from Mayo. Gavin beat Joe in the 2019 Final but Joe turned the tables this time around with a 21-16, 21-7 victory.

Congratulations to the winners and hard luck to the runners up.
