Three Wexford players through to All Ireland Adult Softball Singles Finals
We had six players in All Ireland Semi-Final action at the weekend and three have reached their respective Finals. James Mythen in Emerald Masters B has yet to play his Semi-Final, so hopefully we will end up with four.
We had two home wins, played in St. Marys, with James Stanners (Masters B) and Tommy Hynes (Masters A) both coming through comfortably in two straight games against Limerick opposition. James defeated Mike O’Brien 21-3, 21-4 and Tommy beat Paul Hedderman 21-8, 21-1. Noel Holohan lost out to Keith Heelan, also from Limerick in two straight games.
Gavin Buggy (O35AS) had a tough semi final on Sunday in Ballina, Co. Tipperary, especially as he had a Senior Singles semi-final the day before, which he lost to Robbie McCarthy. He won the first game against David Hickey 21-17, but David levelled the match in the second game, winning it 21-11. Gavin seized the initiative in the third and took it comfortably 21-3. Cora Doyle travelled to Limerick to take on Aisling Shanahan in Ladies Junior B and took the first game 21-8. Aisling hit back in the second, winning it 21-18. The third game went down to the wire with Cora losing out agonisingly on a 21-19 scoreline. Barry Goff in Masters A had to travel to Kerry to take on Dominick Lynch, and in a similar pattern to Cora’s game, he took the first game 21-17. Dominick then took control to win the final two games 21-8, 21-12 to clinch his place in the Final.
The All Ireland Finals are scheduled for Sunday 8th September.
