No joy for Fergal McWilliams at Kingscourt Festival of Handball Finals

It turned out to be a mixed day for Wexford at the opening games of the GAA Festival of Handball weekend of All Ireland singles finals at Kingscourt, Co. Cavan.

Wexford had two qualifiers in the adult finals which began on Friday evening last, Fergal McWilliams from Horeswood in the 35 and Over B and Mick Armstrong, Kilmyshal in the Golden Masters B. They were to end the evening with contrasting fortunes.

Fergal McWilliams went down to defeat against Trevor Hannon, Galway in the O35BS decider. The Galway man was ending a three year losing streak having lost the O35B final in 2015, 2014 (singles) & 2013 (doubles). It proved to be a tough night for the Horeswood native who never got into the game at any stage.

The Galway man was ending a three year losing streak having lost the O35B final in 2015, 2014 (singles) & 2013 (doubles) but those defeats seemed to spur on the Connacht champion on this occasion and he ran out an easy winner against the Horeswood native who never got into the game at any stage. McWilliams was playing in his first final and he will take heart from the determined showing of his opponent who produced his best on the night despite all of those earlier defeats.
