New competition structures point to an exciting time for Wexford handballers
At a Special General Meeting held last night, Wexford County Committee formally gave the green light for the introduction of new competition structures for county competitions. The new initiative sees the return of 4-wall and softball singles leagues, while the championship, after several successful years of being run on a league/knockout basis, will revert back to a purely knockout format.
The new leagues in particular are expected to be very popular as players of similar ability, rather than championship grading, will be grouped together and some who had struggled to be competitive within the previous system may find themselves back in contention for honours once again.
The new competitions which begin in just over a months time are being introduced for a trial period of one season after which their impact will be reviewed.
The new schedule approved last night is as follows:
A new 4-wall (40×20) singles league is to be run in Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec with competitions finishing not later than end of December. Entries for this have already been requested from club secretaries.
The county 4-wall (40×20) championship is to be run on a knockout basis in January/February/March
A new softball (60×30) singles league is to be run in April/May/June with competitions finishing not later than end of June.
The county softball (60×30) championships is to be run on a knockout basis in July/August
