New 60×30 handball court at Rathangan is a huge boost for the softball code

The recent official opening of a new 60×30 handball alley at St. Anne’s Rathangan GAA Club is a welcome development for the sport in a county where the softball code is the predominant force. While future plans for the facility have not been fully established it is hoped that county games will take place there in 2019.

Wexford senior hurling stars (and St. Anne’s club men) Diarmuid O’Keeffe and Liam Og McGovern were on hand to cut the ribbon for the new development which also includes a hurling wall and astro-turf facility. Amongst the activities organised to promote the official opening was a game of softball featuring Seamie O’Neill, Alan O’Neill, JR Finn and James Stanners of neighbouring handball clubs Ballymitty and St. Martins, as well as Dean O’Neill and Diarmuid Moore of Ballymitty who showcased the 1-wall code.

Representatives of GAA Handball Wexford attended the event.
