Music, singing & dancing at Castlebridge Handball Club relaunch

The recent relaunch of the newly renovated Castlebridge Handball Club had a real Irish feel to it as the sizable attendance which included National President Willie Roche, were treated to a mixture of music, singing, dancing and of course a little handball writes Tony Breen.

The event was organised to celebrate the upgrading of the playing and spectator areas as well as the provision of enhanced dressing rooms, toilets and a new kitchenette. The end product is a court that can match the best in the country and facilities suitable for and capable of hosting major handball games and events.

The day kicked of with the youngest members of the club enjoying mini handball games on court and this was followed by the music of Castlebridge Fife and Drum band, a group that, perhaps fittingly on the day that was in it, included the sister and niece of National Handball President Willie Roche.

It was then the turn of the dancers from Dancing with Declan as new club sponsor Declan Flanagan and his troupe put on a brilliant display of on court dancing and the proceedings came to and end with a rousing rendition of Boolavogue by Matt Murphy.

The evening also featured the launch of new club jerseys courtesy of sponsor Declan Flanagan as well as a presentation to club legend Brian Murphy for his lifetime of service to the Over the Water club.

It was a fitting occasion indeed for a handball unit that has always been to the forefront of the sport both in Wexford and nationally and the launch will inspire confidence within the local community as this progressive club continues to plan and build for the next generation.
