Model County Metal joins Wexford’s growing sponsorship team

Wexford GAA Handball gained another sponsor recently when well known Taghmon car dismantlers, Model County Metal joined the growing team. The business is owned by Johnny Murphy, whose family has been associated with handball on and off since the 1980s, when Johnny himself was a prominent player at county and intercounty level. In recent years sons Mikey and Jack have returned to the game in the colours of their local club Taghmon and the Murphy name is again to the fore in this historic place.

In the past couple of years Wexford GAA Handball has introduced a novel team event into the annual programme of events and this has generated huge interest amoungst the clubs. The format involves teams of four players, not necessarily from the same clubs, coming together as two doubles pairings for a competition played on a league basis. Model County Metal are the new title sponsors for Division 1 and five teams will take part in this years event.

Each team has been allocated tee shirts, with the colour becoming the team name. Taking part are Team Black, captained by Dean O’Neill, Team Blue, captained by James Stanners, Team Green, captained by Robert Cogley, Team Red captained by Noel Holohan and Team Yellow captained by Liam Rossiter. The competition will get underway shortly.
