Memories from 1973: The first Top Ace

For old times sake with AOB

Wexford were well represented in the first ever Top Ace handball competition to be featured on television back in 1973. Pat Murphy, Dick Lyng and Seamus Buggy were joined by Pat Kirby (Clare), Joey Maher (Louth), Murty McEllistrim (Kerry), Peadar McGee (Mayo), Seamus McCabe (Monaghan) and Pat Clarke (Kildare).

The opening game was shown on 7th February 1973 and each match was played over 15 minutes. The final on 21st March ran for 25 minutes and Pat Murphy became the first winner by defeating Joey Maher by 23-16.
