After an absence of 12 months the county 60×30 junior doubles crown again resides in Kilmyshall, following the victory of Niall Maher and Padhraic Roberts over Eugene Kelly and Thomas Hall, Castlebridge in the final played recently at St. Mary’s.

It had looked anything but a good night for the eventual winners when they were comprehensively beaten 21-7 in the first game but they recovered their composure to mount their expected challenge in the second. As Roberts began to influence matters on the left, Maher managed to produce some of his renowned killshots and the north-west Wexford pairing were soon level at 1-all following a 21-10 win.

The third saw the Kilmyshall boys quick out of the blocks and as Hall and Kelly struggled to get their opponents ‘off the shortline’, Roberts again used his guile to find the space up the left for his killshots. Maher was also working hard to keep the Castlebridge men at distance and the outcome was a rather comfortable 21-12 win in the end for the 2014 champions. It has been a wonderful junior doubles county championship and as the winners were the only pairing to go through the entire process undefeated they can be considered the most worthy of champions.
