A brilliant performance by brothers Mikie and Jim Berry lit up Abbeylara this afternoon as they overcame slight favourites Martin Mulkerrins and Ollie Conway, Galway, to capture the MyClubShop.ie All-Ireland Intermediate Doubles title.

The Wexfordmen went into the final at the Longford venue on the back of a highly impressive semi final showing against Paul Brady and James Brady, Cavan and to the delight of the big Wexford following they picked up where they left off in that match, to record a terrific 21-10, 21-10 win. The victory was fashioned on a mix of great serving, intense concentration which saw them miss very little and devastating killing, especially by Mikie, when the opportunity presented itself.

It was only the second win for Wexford in this grade since it was introduced back in 1994 and the first since 2000 when Barry Goff and Gavin Buggy were successful. For Mikie Berry it was another major achievement in a chequered career which has seen him capture the under 21 singles in successful seasons back in 2007 and 2008, as well as the under 21 doubles title with Jim in 2007.

They now enter the senior ranks at an age when there is still time to make an impact, but that is for another day and for now, they (and Wexford handball) can celebrate another milestone in our proud history.
