Kenny downs O'Toole in hard fought intermediate singles final
David Kenny, Castlebridge continued his terrific season of
success across all 60×30 platforms when he pulled off a surprise win over Darren O’Toole, Coolgreany in the county intermediate singles final at Castlebridge on Friday last. Kenny took everything the powerful north Wexfordman could throw at him before emerging a 19-21, 21-18, 21-19 winner.
The victory maintained the winning run of Kenny who, as a junior player, has already won the higher intermediate doubles for the second year in a row as well as the 60×30 Nationals with Galen Riordan. He is due to take on Niall Maher, Kilmyshall in the county junior singles final in the coming weeks.
For his part, the outgoing champion O’Toole will probably rue his failure to put the ball down when clear chances presented themselves as Kenny worked his socks off to remain in several of the rallies (with considerable success) after his opponent had spurned the opportunity to ‘put the ball away’.
In addition to his county junior singles final, Kenny has also qualified for the Leinster junior singles semi final and is also in contention for provincial the junior doubles. It was easy to see why at Castlebridge.
