Keith Armstrong and Daniel Kavanagh take All Ireland 60×30 Minor Doubles title

Keith Armstrong and Daniel Kavanagh produced a majestic performance at Abbeylara yesterday to defeat Niall Joyce and Patrick Murphy, Mayo 21-4, 21-16 and add the All Ireland 60×30 minor doubles championship to the 40×20 won earlier this year. They thus emulated the achievement of the brilliant Barry Goff and Colin Keeling who managed the same feat back in 1997.

The Wexford boys set out their stall right from the off and playing a brand of handball their opponents simply could not match they coasted to 21-4 first game win. The second followed the same pattern as Armstrong and Kavanagh continued their dominance to lead 17-7 and while Mayo did stage a spirited fightback the result was never in doubt as the Slaneysiders ran out comfortable winners to confirm their status as Ireland’s premier under 18 pairing in both codes.

The partnership now splits for a while as the mercurial Kavanagh has another year left at minor while Kavanagh goes on to the under 21 grade in 2016.
