The long trip to McCartan’s in Monaghan town proved not to be a barrier to Josh Kavanagh, Wexford this evening, as he defeated Eoghan McGinnty, Monaghan 15-7, 15-11 to become only the second player from the county (Dean Corrigan was the other in 2007) to win the All Ireland boys 60×30 under 14 singles title.
The game was brought forward from Sunday as Josh is heading to the USA tomorrow to take part in the Simple Green tournament and although conceding home advantage to his fancied opponent, the Wexford youngster made light of the task to record a famous victory.
It capped a wonderful week for the family which began with brother Daniel winning the All Ireland minor doubles title at Croke Park on Saturday last.
