James Stanners graph continues to rise

It was back in 2012 when he was in his early 30s that James Stanners, St. Martins, first appeared on the handball scene. He possessed plenty of determination and no little ambition, but in a sport like handball and in a county like Wexford where title winning has always been difficult,  he was not expected to make that much of an impact.

Fast forward to 2016 and he now finds himself promoted for the third time, having won the entry level beginners tournament in 2013, followed by success in the 60×30 junior D in 2014 and junior C grade this year. His recent win over his brother David in the junior C final will see him elevated to the junior B grade in 2017 and on the evidence of his achievements to date, he is likely to again be competitive, even at this much more difficult level. He certainly showed a terrific hunger throughout the junior C championship this year and in the final against his sibling, he kept his focus to win by a very comfortably  21-12, 21-9.

It seems there is more to come from the Piercestown man!
