Is this a record as Rossiter and Dunne families celebrate?

When Liam Rossiter and Laurence Dunne captured the All Ireland 60×30 boys under 17 doubles at Ballymoe, Co. Roscommon today, Sunday, they may well have set a record that will be hard to emulate writes AOB. The boys, from Ballyhogue and Kilmyshal clubs respectively, joined forces at the start of the championship and resisted all challengers along the way to take the title in great style by beating Barry O’Meara and Dan Healy, Tipperary 21-14, 21-12.

Celebrating their victory alongside them were their fathers, Billy Rossiter and Jimmy Dunne, winners of Diamond Masters B Singles and Emerald Masters B Singles All Ireland titles in recent weeks.  Indeed in Rossiter’s case it was a third title in the current championship as Billy teamed with his brother Michael to take the Emerald Masters B Doubles yesterday at Ballina, Co. Tipperary. Earlier in the year Michael had taken the All Ireland 40×20 Emerald Masters B Singles title, making it a season to remember for the Rossiter clan.

Handball is of course a family sport and no doubt there have been several cases of fathers and sons winning All Ireland titles in the same year, but has there ever been a case where two fathers who have won titles in the same year, then saw their sons team up to win a title in the same championship?

Over to the historians!
