County softball team events update
The opening game in the EEW Ltd D1 and Acme Blinds D2 county softball team leagues took place earlier this week and the competition is set to get underway in earnest from next week onwards. If any team member is unavailable the events will continue with substitutes being called upon in unavoidable cases. Team captains should by now have set up a WhatsApp group of their members and it is their responsibility to request a sub if a team member should be unable to play after the fixture has been made.
The first match in D2 saw Team B Yellow get their campaign off to a flying start with a 4-0 win over Team A Black. Youngsters Jodie Keeling and Sean Fitzharris showed real battling qualities to come from behind to defeat Shane Cleary and Barry Byrne 15-12, 15-7 and the 4-0 victory was assured when Michael Rossiter and Miley Byrne earned a hard fought 15-11, 15-10 win against James Mythen and Nicky Casey. The overall 20 ace winning margin surpassed the 16 needed for a win bonus point and with the playing point added to their total as well, Team B Yellow came away with the maximum 6 points. On a night when the 4-0 win did not in any way reflect the competitive nature of the tie, Team A Black had to settle for a playing point.
