County 40×20 Juvenile 'B' Championship Finals Report

Report by Juvenile Committee P.R.O Gavin Buggy

The Co.Wexford Juvenile ‘B’ Championship Final’s took place recently at St.Josephs, Bishopswater with the ‘Home’ Club coming away with three titles, Ballymitty secured two titles as did Castlebridge and there was one each for St.Marys and Taghmon. All the winners go forward to compete in the Championship proper in early January. There were some terrific games across the various age groups, none more so than in Boys U-12 Singles as Eoin Roche (Ballymitty) overcame a 13-4 3rd Game deficit to deprive the gallant John Connors (Coolgreany) 15-14. The Girls U-13 Singles Final also went right down to the wire as Rachel Goff (St.Josephs) daughter of the brilliantly talented former All Ireland 60X30 Senior Doubles Champion Barry Goff edged out her friend and club mate Alannah Wogan (St.Josephs) after Alannah had looked all over a Winner ~ Rachel just about getting there 7-15,15-7,15-14. Other St.Josephs winners ‘on the card’ were Cian Kehoe who accounted for Jack Murphy (Taghmon) in Boys U-16 Singles and Eva Crean who continued in sparkling form as she was too strong for a game Lauren Flanagan (Coolgreany) in Girls U-17 Singles. Emily Moran (Ballymitty) also continued the Moran family tradition and added the second title for the Blue & White as she defeated first time finalist Chloe Carroll (Taghmon), indeed Chloe gave a terrific account of herself but ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline after a 3rd Game. Taghmon didn’t come away empty handed however as the talented Conor Murphy had too much experience for Tommy Connors (Coolgreany) in the Boys U-14 Singles. The 1st Game proved crucial with Conor just about seeing it out 15-11 and despite a valiant effort Tommy couldn’t quite bridge the gap. Jack Creane (St.Marys) and Liam Parnell (Ballyhogue) displayed plenty of potential for the future in Boys U-11 Singles and in a game which in truth could have gone either way it was the Emmett Place man who edged it 2 Games to 1. Castlebridge the supreme Juvenile Club in Ireland for many, many years have had a barren spell in the last decade but they have restructured their juvenile section and upgraded the court during the Summer and they bounced back winning two titles at Boys U-13 Singles in Cian Doyle who unfortunately received a Walkover and Joe Devereux at Boys U-15 Singles who outstayed his ‘Stablemate’ Davy Doyle in a fantastically committed game that had the crowd on their toes. All in all a reasonable good day with some very good Final’s and it’s onwards and upwards for all the Juveniles. Many thanks to Juvenile Secretary Virginia Rossiter who oversaw the programme of Fixtures since November and to Juvenile Chairman Robert Doyle who presented the Medals on the day along with Wexford’s winning most female player of all time Marguerite Gore.
