Castlebridge Set for Historic All Ireland Senior Softball Doubles Final this Saturday

The countdown is on for what promises to be a very special All Ireland Senior Softball Doubles Final this Saturday in Castlebridge. With the new GAA Handball Centre not quite ready to host major games, this Final will probably be the last to take place outside of Croke Park, It is a marvellous honour for Castlebridge Handball Club and the wider Wexford handball community to host such a prestigious event. It is extra special when Wexford has its own Gavin Buggy {St. Marys) and Galen Riordan {Ballyhogue} competing for All Ireland honours.

Following on from last weekend’s Semi Final victory over Kerry, Gavin and Galen face a daunting task in the Final as they are up against the reigning champions Gary McConnell and Brian Carroll from Meath. To put the size of the task facing the Wexford pair in context, McConnell and Carroll have have won the last two Doubles titles, with Carroll winning another seven titles with Tom Sheridan. By contrast Gavin and Galen only joined forces this season. Gavin is taking part in only his second final, having partnered Barry Goff in defeat against Dublin back in 2006, while for Galen it will be his first Senior Final.

While they are undoubtedly going in as underdogs, the Wexford pair are improving with every round, and in a once off Final anything can happen. We wish Gavin and Galen the very best of luck. Lets hope the large Wexford crowd can play their part in driving on the lads to victory.
