Castlebridge hosts the Lyng Cup senior softball singles final tonight

All roads lead to Castlebridge this evening for the county senior softball singles final between 11-times champion Tommy Hynes, St. Mary’s and Galen Riordan, Ballyhogue, who is seeking his first. In many ways it could be described as a battle between the past and the future, but in reality it is also very much of the present. That it is so is down to the remarkable longevity of Tommy Hynes, who at 50 years of age is going almost as well as ever. He will need to show that one more time though, because, while 27-year old Riordan has yet to win the coveted Willie Lyng Cup, he is a genuine senior player with All Ireland intermediate and under 21 titles to his name. Like many great county senior finals of the past this is a difficult one to call.

The game gets underway at 7.30 and will be followed by the Golden Masters A singles decider between John Roche and Padraig Devereux, both from Castlebridge
