All Ireland Senior Softball Doubles Champions Honoured by St. Marys Handball Club
There was a great turnout in Sinnotts Bar, Distillery Road last Sunday night to honour the All Ireland Senior Softball Doubles Champions Gavin Buggy and Galen Riordan. Marguerite Gore was MC for the night and a presentation was made to Gavin and Galen to mark their famous victory. St. Marys also made presentations to clubmen Nicky Casey and Ray Wickham on their brilliant All Ireland Diamond Masters B Softball victory.
Also honoured was St. Marys legend Mick Flood, not only for his great service to the club, but also for the the mark he has left on handball throughout Wexford and beyond. Speaking of legends it was fitting that Gavin Buggy made a surprise presentation to Tommy Hynes for his brilliant achievement in winning 12 County Senior Singles Softball titles, a record that will be be very difficult to match. Besides his Singles victories he has 16 County Senior Doubles titles under his belt and also won the the all Ireland Seniot Softball Doubles title in 2000, partnered by Colin Keeling. It was fitting that Kilkenny legend Eugene Downey made the presentation to Tommy, himself an All Ireland Senior Softball Doubles Champion on no fewer than 10 occasions with his the late great Michael “Ducksy” Walsh.
Congratulations to all those honoured and thanks to St. Mary’s club for organizing such a special night.
