County Chairman Tom Rossiter with Gavin Buggy and Tommy Hynes following the 60×30 final – now they meet again in the 40×20 decider.

For the second time in the competition Tommy Hynes, St. Mary’s proved that age is no barrier when faced by Paul (Curley) Lambert, St. Josephs, as he again defeated his 27 year old opponent 21-17, 21-11 in the county 40×20 senior singles semi final at St. Josephs last night.  The players had clashed earlier in the league stages when the 43 year old Hynes came out on top 21-10, 21-17, but after battling hard to take the opener on this occasion it was the brilliant Hynes who pulled away for an emphatic win. He now faces defending champion Gavin Buggy, St. Josephs in the final.
Some will wonder about the quality of those coming behind when two Masters players qualify for the county senior singles final, but to do so would be to underestimate the brilliance of Buggy and Hynes, who, despite the advancing years, have managed to keep themselves in the kind of shape necessary to be a force, not just in Wexford but around the country as well.
