A new chapter begins for Davidstown Courtnacuddy as their new handball facility sees action return to the venue for the first time in 269 weeks
Just over 5 years after Storm Ophelia inflicted massive structural damage on the clubhouse and handball court at Davidstown Courtnacuddy GAA Club at Boolabawn, brighter times lie ahead for this Enniscorthy district country club. That day, 16th October 2017, was the blackest in the long and cherished history of the club as the storm left their building in ruins and their future shrouded in doubt. Now, 62 months on, a brand new state of the art building stands proudly on the same spot, bearing testimony to the determination and resilience of its members, as well as to the support of the local community. At its very centre, the new modern handball court and viewing arena is ready to receive players and spectators again after 269 ‘lost’ weeks and this magnificent arena could well be the springboard for growing the club handball membership into the future.
The eagerly awaited first handball action at the new centre will take place on Tuesday night next at 7.20pm and a large crowd is expected for the occasion which includes the opening match in the county team league, and indeed the opening match of the 2023 season, as well as the launch of the two sponsorship deals for those two team events. James Stanners & Sons Painting/Decorating will be unveiled as the new sponsors for Division 1 while Acme Blinds & Commercial Products will be announced as sponsors for Division 2. All 11 teams taking part are asked to attend for photographs etc, and to collect their team tee shirts for the competition.
To assist those unsure of where the new facility is located, the Eircode is Y21 K880 and patrons are advised to get there by 7pm if possible. Light refreshments will be available and a great occasion for all, but especially the people of Davidstown Courtnacuddy GAA Club, looks assured.
