County championship grading information

That FO-RIAL 1002 be abolished and our county 60×30 and 40 x 20 championships run as follows;
 
First Grade
A players county grading is to be determined by his intercounty grading. In other words if a player is graded intercounty junior then he must play junior in the county and this will be his first grade. A player can play in two grades of handball in the county but he must play in his first grade in order to be eligible to play in a second event. He can play singles and doubles in two events but cannot play singles in his second grade unless he is also playing singles in his first grade. If he is not entering the singles he can play doubles in two events provided one is his first grade and his partner in the higher grade is a higher grade player.
 
Competition Format
All grades to be run on a league basis with groups of four if possible so that each player or pairing gets a minimum of three games. In cases where there are four groups the top two players in each group are to qualify for the quarter finals. In cases where there are more than 16 entries, additional groups are to be formed and a round of 16 to be played where necessary. In cases where only two groups are formed the top two in each group will qualify for the semi-finals. In cases where the entries do not permit more than one group a round robin is to be played with the top two qualifying for the final.
 
All grades with two or more entries to be played as a championship provided a fixture is actually made.
 
Overage Players
An overage players’ first grade is the oldest available age grade he qualifies for.
 
Overage and Senior
The first grade of an overage player who is also a senior player will be senior.
 
Restricted Grades
Players may not take part in two overage singles grades or two overage doubles grades, but can play singles in one grade and doubles in another.
 
Players may not play in two of the following grades; junior b, junior C and junior D.
 
Further Restrictions
Under no circumstances can a player play two grades above his first grade except a junior player who can also play at senior level. In other words a junior B player cannot play intermediate, a junior C player cannot play junior and a junior D player cannot play junior B. An overage B player cannot play higher than junior.
 
Senior Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty senior, inter county intermediate and intercounty junior. An intermediate or junior player must play singles in the intermediate or junior grade in order to be eligible to play senior singles but he can play intermediate or junior singles and senior doubles with a senior player. He can also play singles and doubles in either intermediate or junior grades but must partner a senior player in senior doubles.
 
An intermediate player who wins a county senior singles and/or doubles title can continue to play intermediate for as long as his intercounty grade remains intermediate.
 
Intermediate Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty intermediate and intercounty junior. A junior player must play singles in the junior grade in order to be eligible to play intermediate singles but he can play junior singles and intermediate doubles with an intermediate player. He can also play singles and doubles in both grades but must partner an intermediate player in intermediate doubles.
 
A junior player who wins a county intermediate singles and/or doubles title can continue to play junior for as long as his intercounty grade remains junior.
 
Junior Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty junior and intercounty junior B. A junior B player must play singles in the junior B grade in order to be eligible to play junior singles but he can play junior B singles and junior doubles with a junior player. He can also play singles and doubles in both grades but must partner a junior player in junior doubles.
 
A player who won an All Ireland U14 or U16 singles or doubles title must play junior.
 
A player who has won a provincial minor or under 21 title must play junior.
 
A junior B player who wins a county junior singles and/or doubles title can continue to play junior B for as long as his intercounty grade remains junior B.
 
Minor Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 18 in the year of the championship. Players who have not won a county juvenile singles title or county adult singles or doubles title will also take part in a Plate Competition in both singles and doubles providing they first take part in the minor championship. A player who gives a walkover for any reason whatsoever in the minor singles or doubles championship will not be eligible for the Plate Competition.
 
Junior B Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 15 or over in the year of the championship, are graded intercounty junior B and have won a county junior C or higher singles title.
 
A player who has won a provincial U14 or U16 singles or doubles title must play junior B.
 
A junior B player who wins a county junior B singles and/or doubles title can continue to play junior B for as long as his intercounty grade remains junior B.
 
Junior C Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 15 or over in the year of the championship and those who have won a county junior D singles or doubles title but who have not won a county junior C or higher singles title.
 
A player who has won a provincial U15 or U17 singles or doubles title or an All Ireland U14/15 or U16/17 team championship must play junior C.
 
A player who has won a county juvenile singles title must play junior C.
 
A player who has won a county masters A or B singles or doubles title must play junior C unless he have already won a county junior C or higher singles title.
 
Promotion to junior B takes place only on winning a junior C singles title.
 
Junior D Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 15 or over in the year of the championship and those who have not won a county junior D or higher singles or doubles title in either 60×30 or 40×20.
 
A player who has not won a county juvenile singles title must play junior D.
 
35 and Over Singles and Doubles
Open to players 35 and over who are eligible to play county junior B, junior C and junior D.
 
Masters A Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty Overage A who are aged 40 or over in the year of the championship. Such a player can also play in another grade for which he is qualified but his first grade is his overage grade. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
Masters B Singles and Doubles
Open to players who are aged 40 or over in the year of the championship and who have not won an All Ireland minor, under 21, junior B,  overage B or higher singles or doubles title. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
A masters B player may also play junior C unless he has already won a junior C or higher singles title. In that case he must play the higher grade he has qualified for but his first grade is his overage grade.
 
Golden Masters A Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty Overage A who are aged 50 or over in the year of the championship. Such a player can also play in another grade for which he is qualified but his first grade is his overage grade. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
Golden Masters B Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 50 in the year of the championship and who have not won an All Ireland minor, under 21, junior B or higher title. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
A golden masters B player can also play junior C unless he has already won a junior C or higher singles title. In that case he must play the higher grade he has qualified for but his first grade is his overage grade.
 
Emerald Masters A Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty Overage A who are aged 55 or over in the year of the championship. Such a player can also play in another grade for which he is qualified but his first grade is his overage grade. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
Emerald Masters B Singles and Doubles
Open to players who reach the age of 55 in the year of the championship and who have not won an All Ireland minor, under 21, junior B or higher title. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
A golden masters B player can also play junior C unless he has already won a junior C or higher singles title. In that case he must play the higher grade he has qualified for but his first grade is his overage grade.
 
Diamond Masters Singles and Doubles
Open to players graded intercounty Overage A who are aged 60 or over in the year of the championship. Such a player can also play in another grade for which he is qualified but his first grade is his overage grade. If playing a second grade singles it must be a grade he would have to play if he was not playing Overage. Such a player can play one grade higher than that if playing doubles only.
 
Withdrawals
Players withdrawing from their first grade cannot continue to play in a second grade.
 
Women’s County Championships
 
First Grade
A players county grading is to be determined by her intercounty grading. In other words if a player is graded intercounty junior then she must play junior in the county and this will be her first grade. A player can play in two grades of handball in the county but she must play in her first grade in order to be eligible to play in a second event. She can play singles and doubles in two events but cannot play singles in her second grade unless she is also playing singles in her first grade. If she is not entering the singles she can play doubles in two events providing her partner in the higher grade is a higher grade player. Masters is excluded from first grade and such a player will be graded on her junior/junior b/junior C grading.
 
Grades
Championships to be promoted in the following grades where two or more actually play;
Junior, junior B, junior C, minor and masters and beginners.
 
Grading as follows;
Junior – for players aged 15 and over in the year of the championship, who are graded intercounty junior.
Junior B – For players aged 16 and over in the year of the championship, who have not won an All Ireland Junior B singles or doubles title or an All Ireland U14 or U16 singles or doubles title.
Junior C – For players aged 15 and over in the year of the championship, who have not won a county C singles title or a Leinster singles or doubles title in U14 or U16.
Masters – For players who reach the age of 40 and over in the year of the championship.
Beginners – For players above juvenile age (U17) who have not played in a county championship previously, in either 60×30 or 40×20.
