Lambert leads the way but the big guns are starting to rumble

With eleven points out of a possible twelve, Paul Lambert, St. Mary’s has made an impressive start to his Division 1 campaign, but behind him the big names are starting to rumble. The former St. Joseph’s player has hoovered up maximum points in his clashes with Mikie Berry, Josh Kavanagh and Mark Doyle, but it was his tie break win over Galen Riordan, Ballyhogue that has made people sit up an take notice. Time will tell if that was just an early season blip for the two time county senior champion, or if indeed Lambert has hit a rich vein of form, but either way right now ‘Curly’ is in a great position vis-a-via all others in this very competitive group.

Amongst those others is Gavin Buggy, St. Mary’s who got his 4 wall season underway last week with a routine win over Mark Doyle, Taghmon. The latter is mixing the two codes at the moment and his focus is undoubtedly on the upcoming All Ireland colleges semi final and final in which he plays intermediate singles next weekend, but nonetheless it was an ominous display by Buggy who will be out to make amends for having to play second fiddle to the aforementioned Riordan for the past two seasons.
