Former Wexford handball county secretary Jim Mackey was one of the recipients at the Seana Ghael Loch Garman Annual Re-Union awards presentation at The Ferrycarraig Hotel recently. The awards are presented to those over the age of 70, who have given a lifelong commitment to their club and to the GAA.

The Ferns native began his administrative duties as secretary of the county 40×20 games committee in the mid-80s and was elected as county secretary in 1988.  He succeeded the legendary Sean O’Leary who had held office for the previous 21 years and over the next 13 years he firmly established himself as an official of the highest calibre. His excellence was recognized at national level in 1997 when he was named GAA Handball Official of the Year.
