Wexford Handball Board’s decision to organise a tournament for women who had not previously played handball competitively has generated considerable interest amongst the general population in the county with several people coming forward to enter.
It has therefore been decided to hold an Open Night at St. Josephs Handball Centre on Wednesday evening at 8pm so that those who are interested can hear for themselves the type of competition being proposed.
In general the following will apply;
Competition format: Entrants will be placed into groups
Doubles format: Each player will play with all of the other players in her group against all of those in the other group(s)
Ball used: Challenger 1
Playing rules: Back wall will not be in play either on the serve or in general play
Shortline: The inside line will be the shortline and two ‘shorts’ will be a handout
Games: Each match will be 3 games of 15 points each with one point per game won going to each player on the winning side. If it finishes two games to one then the winning pair will be awarded two points each and the losing pair one point apiece.
Eye protection: Eye guards will be compulsory and these will be available to purchase on Wednesday night.
Registration: All those who decide to take part will be required to register through us with GAA Handball Ireland at a cost of 15 euros. This fee also covers the player under the Player Injury Scheme and is mandatory throughout the GAA.
Start up date: About three weeks so that everyone is given time to prepare etc..
