Clubs must not avoid responsibilities at County Convention

Written by Antoin Ó Braoin, Rúnaí Contae
All units are reminded that Monday, December 1st is the date for GAA Handball Wexford County Convention. The most important meeting of the year by far looks back at the preceding 12 months and critically, elects those who will be responsible for implementing County Committee policy throughout 2015.
The continuing promotion and development of Wexford handball requires a huge commitment by a very small number of people and a small commitment by a handful of people, but it is the latter requirement that is causing the problem. Everyone needs to take on board the reality that unless this small commitment is spread amongst a larger group number of people, the risk of losing good officials is increasing month by month.
All clubs have a responsibility to share this workload and when those positions are filled a much stronger and more cohesive Committee emerges. Some of those positions require only a minimum effort from elected officials and for those who are prepared to come on board, considerable help and guidance is available.
The spectacle of the hardest working officials in Wexford being forced to take up two or even three positions so that the Board can continue to operate is outdated and not at all in keeping with GAA Handball Ireland policy. We need to address this ahead of 2015 if serious problems are to be avoided in the immediate aftermath of Convention.
No county is too big to fail!
